The Toy Project Revival

So I actually have been working on this project. It's just that it is soo much fun to look and find these toys and then play with them rather then get into the actual photograph. So I found a few Care Bears in the spare room at my parents house. This one was purchased for me since my birthday is in March (clearly that means I like shamrocks or something...I don't really though.)

Either way here is a new TTV Photograph to add to the mix.

I'm a horrible blogger!

I cannot believe that I let this blog sit for so long without any love. It's not like I have been so crazy busy that I cannot tend to it...

As a little offering to those who read it and periodically check back to see what new 'Through The Viewfinder' creations are floating around in my mind I give you two new photographs; a variation on a theme if you will.
Threads...lots and lots of threads.

Updated Portrait Attempt

This week I practiced (just like I said I wanted to!) my TTV Portraits. They are coming along nicely but then again this image was photographed around 4 in the afternoon...

I want to be able to photograph in a low light situation with no extra light source and still have a crisp figure for the portrait. I'm not sure if that means I need to make a better tunnel to shield the viewfinder of my Duaflex or what...

Either way I have been continuing my toy project too. Here are a few examples of those images:

TTV Portrait Attempts

I adore photographing still life photos but I've always enjoyed environmental portraits. I did them for years when I was in college. Here I am trying to master the art of TTV with portraits and it is so much more difficult! There are many variables (with the subject moving and then your TTV contraption and your digital camera) that makes this quite that task that I was to figure out before the end of summer.

These are just a few attempts and are not anything brilliant- just tests really.

Be sure to check out the progression in the weeks to come. I am hoping to work out all of the kinks soon!

Random TTV's

This last month or so I have been in a little creative rut. I made a goal for myself to make AT LEAST one photograph a day to try and ignite my creativity. This is what I can up with for today.

P.S. I am still working on the toy project but I do not want to exhaust my options or start photographing the same toys over and over so I am working on building up that little collection. I will post some new ones soon!

I Need To Clean My Mirrors

They are so dirty that my white backgrounds look awful!

It is my goal this week to fix that (or at least unpack my two Duaflex's that are already squeaky clean!

Perfect Summer TTV Photograph

I don't like summer. I loathe the sun and warm weather makes me cranky and depressed. So for me summer is just no fun. I think that is why all of my summer photos are a little off and dark. Here is a pretty good example of how my mind views summer.

I can't wait for the fall...

He-Man : Skeletor and Battle Cat

Well, I went digging around in the garage and was able to rescue Battle Cat (Adam/He-Man's Tiger) as well as Skeletor.
These are only the initial images as I wanted to photograph them right away but I am not 100% happy with the final outcome (the lighting was strange today and I felt rushed when I was shooting...)
Either way here are more additions to 'The Toy Project'

I am really excited to continue this project- it have given me a new view and a renewed sense of inspiration! I hope everyone else is as inspired as I am right now.

My Little Pony

Yes- That's right!
Since my move I have been finding amazing treasures that I NEVER would have expected to find ever again. I am currently working on a book consisting of TTV Photographs of childhood toys. I think these are the perfect starting point for this project and these are just the two ponies that I brought into the house so far...

I still have the unicorns, flutter ponies and the male ponies to go through. I am really excited and can't wait! Not to mention I have TONS and TONS of vintage Star Wars, He-Man and She-Ra toys to go through. I can really feel the creativity and inspiration coming. If there are any suggestions on other childhood toys form the 1980's please let me know.

UPDATE: After my mom saw these images she exclaimed how she was glad that I went to art school for my degree just go later go on and photograph My Little Ponies....gee- thanks Mom!

After The Move

I finally made the transition between living on my own to moving back in with my parents (at least m brother still lives here too!) and it has been quite tough to feel inspired or get creative without the entire space at my disposal.

Either way I am trying to force myself out of this rut. These are the images I am working on...if nothing they make me smile and are really gorgeous and simple.

A hard time and the only thing that matters

A week of being unemployed has already changed everything in my life. Things are already instantly tougher. Once again I am realizing who really cares for me and vice versa. It's hard and I want it to end.

Just a really pretty morning image

I see this nearly every morning- these are my hair combs for when I wash my face. They live on this lovely blue towel that I purchased a few years ago for a prop in one of my commercial photographs.
This image makes me think of two things: My grandma first- she always wore combs like these and got me into the habit of using them. Second- it looks like some of the watercolors I used to make when  I was in college.

The party is over

The Horror party was fun! The "Dirty Eyeball" Cupcakes went over well. Great food, drink and friends paired with some gore-tastic horror films made for a great night of fun.
So here is a post-party "the night is over' TTV Photograph.

Welcome to my photography!

This blog is solely for TTV Photography (Through The Viewfinder Photography), inspiration or projects related to TTV.  I have been making this type of photography for less than a year but I feel such a strong connection with making art and images in the technique.
For those who are not certain what TTV Photography is exactly here are a few links that describe the process:
